According to the 2021 Buzz Rankings released by YouGov, a global public opinion and data company, e-commerce platforms and technology firms continued to be highly evaluated in the rankings of the most-mentioned brands in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
Specifically, Shopee was placed in the first position as the most-recognized brand across the Asia Pacific region (APAC), followed by YouTube and Samsung. In Vietnam, Shopee, Lazada, and Tiki maintained leading positions in the e-commerce sector, while Samsung and MoMo (an e-wallet and payments app) dominated the market in terms of technological solutions.
According to a report from Google, Temasek and Bain & Company, Vietnam’s digital economy is projected to peak at USD 57 billion by 2025 from around USD 21 billion in 2021. Apart from e-commerce platforms, other technology enterprises also appeared on YouGov’s list in different countries, popularly Samsung, Google, YouTube, Facebook, Huawei, Netflix, etc.
The expansion of the technology and e-commerce sector and the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic have urged several firms to seek e-payment methods to reduce direct contact and make cashless payment more accessible in Vietnam. Particularly, VNPay, a Vietnam-based fintech start-up, has signed an agreement with Visa to strengthen digital payments in the country. The company aims to spur the rollout of new services, including Visa’s tap-to-phone acceptance solution, virtual Visa prepaid cards, fund transfers powered by Visa direct service, and the Visa installment solution.
