During the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022, Hyundai Motor announced its partnership with San Francisco’s Unity Technologies, where both companies agreed to develop a metaverse platform for Hyundai Motors’ factories. The first meta-factory to be created will be of the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center (HMGIC) in Singapore and will be a digital twin of the group’s factory and innovation hub that is expected to complete construction at the end of the year.
The seven-story HMGIC is expected to be the Korean carmaker’s first center that oversees not only research, development and manufacturing but also the ordering and delivery of vehicles to customers. It is also expected to house locations for the testing of not only traditional cars but also flying cars and drones. The Meta-Factory, which is expected to be completed in 2025, would assist HMGIC in checking the optimal operation rate of its facilities and troubleshooting any problems occurring in the physical factory, saving time and effort for the employees without physically visiting the location.
HMGIC will also be the first factory to produce Electric Vehicles in Singapore, where it has appointed PSA Cargo Solutions as lead logistics service orchestrator. As part of its appointment, PSA will manage control tower management, regulatory compliance, warehousing, EV pre-assembly, and port-to-plant handling.
