The first city-run hospital for the elderly is scheduled to open by late 2019 in Bangkok in Bang Khunthian district, aiming at treating the increasing number of old people in Thaland. According to the governor of Bangkok, the construction of Bang Khunthian Geriatric Hospital is currently 93% completed. The hospital is located in a coastal district of the capital, and it is expected to serve 900,000 people per year.
The project was commenced by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration in 2016. The hospital not only offers treatments, but also serves as a rehabilitation venue for the elderly. Moreover, there are plans for the hospital to be used as a training center for people who want to study medicine for the elderly and become professional caretakers of old people.
