Unovis Asset Management has invested in Green Butcher, an Indonesian-based startup that is developing plant-based alternatives to chicken and beef using natural, whole-food ingredients. The USD 2 million funding will support additional R&D hiring and help the company to scale its production in anticipation of a launch into mainstream retailers in Q2 2021. Unovis made this investment through its New Crop Alternative Protein fund. Besides Unovis, other investors include Singapore-based venture capital Teja Ventures, SavEarth Fund, Phi Trust, C4D, and a number of individual investors.
Green Butcher is currently partnering with Starbucks Indonesia to introduce its plant-based beef products across 50 locations in Greater Jakarta and Bali. The three new plant-based menu items, sloppy joe sandwich, wellington pocket and focaccia bread, will use Green Butcher’s beefless chunks.
