It has recently been announced that one South Korea’s leading mobile carriers, KY Copr., will soon enter the large language model (LLM) sector in Southeast Asia by exporting its hyperscale artificial intelligence (AI) service to Thailand.
KT revealed that it is collaborating with Thailand’s communication and information technology company Jasmine Group to design an LLM for the Thai language based on the South Korean carrier’s AI service MI:DEUM. KT’s goal is to increase its business based on the Thai LLM in Southeast Asia.
Importantly, Southeast Asia’s generative AI market is expected to boom by more than five times to USD 7.7 billion by 2030, up from an estimated USD 1.4 billion in 2023.
KT and Jasmine Group aims to set up the Thai LLM in the second half 2024, with a plan to expand the partnership to other Southeast Asian markets such as Laos and Cambodia through the development of an LLM business for the region.
The South Korean partner will transfer the technology and know-how for the LLM’s establishment, whereas Jasmine will focus on a graphics processing unit farm, a base for the Southeast Asian market analysis and model development. The two companies will work together to deal with regulations on AI in Southeast Asia. This partnership is predicted to increase demand for MI:DEUM, KT’s hyperscale AI.
