Sarawak Government, Alibaba Cloud Join Hands to Drive Digitalization Among SMEs

Jul 2021

Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC), a Sarawak state government-owned corporation has established a partnership with Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group to digitalize the state’s Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Alibaba Cloud was selected by SDEC based on its solid cloud infrastructure and extensive portfolio of public cloud products, notably in the fields of internet, e-commerce, retail, and finance.

SDEC Chief Executive Officer Sudarnoto Osman commented that SDEC’s main goal is to utilize digitalization tools in order to advance economic growth in the state. The state SMEs will have the opportunity to digitally transform their operation from using SDEC’s existing platform SDeCloud to maximizing the extensive offerings of Alibaba Cloud’s new solutions and products including elastic computing, big data, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) features. It is foreseeable that this effort will not just help to increase the SMEs’ business agility, elasticity, and scalability but also establish an optimal and cost-effective use of technology.

Alibaba Cloud highlighted that its cloud computing technology will be the catalyst for inclusive innovation in the provision of Malaysia’s National Digital Economy Blueprint that seeks to establish a high-value-added economy and a net exporter of home-grown technologies and digital solutions. It will further assist SDEC to amplify the impact and reach of the state’s larger-scale digitalization projects.

In addition, Alibaba Cloud has recently announced the launch of Alibaba Cloud Innovation Center in Kuala Lumpur last June. It is the first international innovation center located outside of China and will serve as the regional hub that provides a conducive environment for startups to grow in Malaysia and Asia Pacific region. The center was also part of the Alibaba Cloud’s Project AsiaForward to foster one million digital talents, empower 100,000 developers and accelerate the growth of 100,000 tech startups across Southeast Asia and Hong Kong.
