Thai petroleum exploration and production company PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited, also known as PTTEP, recently launched a solar power project under the name of “Lan Sang Arun” to harness clean energy for the petroleum production process.
This marks the first project in Thailand where power from renewable energy sources is employed to support petroleum production activities. This initiative is estimated to help reduce GHG emissions by approximately 13,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year, equivalent to the offsetting capacity of 1,300,000 trees.
Under PTTEP’s goal to achieve net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050, one of key actions is to reduce the carbon emissions from the company’s production process.
The power generation from solar energy at “Lan Sang Arun” started in July 2023. The 9.98-megawatt solar power project is operated by FutureTech Energy Ventures Company Limited (FTEV), a subsidiary of PTTEP that runs the clean energy business including renewable energy and hydrogen.
Recently, FTEV invested in the development of a sizable green hydrogen production project by using wind and solar energy in the Sultanate of Oman, reflecting PTTEP’s efforts in expanding business into clean energy.
