US-headquartered alternative and renewable geothermal energy company Ormat Technologies has secured a new contract in Indonesia with Star Energy Geothermal Salak to supply products to extend the Salak geothermal field in Indonesia. The Salak geothermal field is located near Jakarta on the southwest flank of the Gunung Salak volcano and currently contains a geothermal power plant using steam.
Ormat is in partnership with a local contractor Tripatra that will provide the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for the construction of a Brine Heat Recovery Binary Power Plant with a potential output of up to 14 MW, while Ormat will supply the Ormat Energy Converter that based on an Organic Rankine Cyle, and will allow 100% geothermal fluid reinjection which serves both to sustain the reservoir and to produce electrical power with virtually no environmental impact.
The supply of the plant is expected to be completed within 12 months from the contract start.
