Manila Water to Start Construction of a USD 139 Million Water Treatment Plant

Aug 2023

Water concessionaire Manila Water is set to build a new 200 million liters per day (MLD) water treatment plant (WTP) which will provide an additional supply of potable water to Metro Manila’s East Zone after inking a partnership deal with ACCIONA, PrimeBMD, and Santa Clara International, which form the consortium that will design and construct the facility.

The PHP 7.84 billion (USD 139 million) East Bay Phase 2 WTP, located in Barangay Kabulusan, Pakil, Laguna, is expected to deliver potable water to an estimated population of 2 million in Pasig, Pateros, Taguig, and nearby towns by the first few months of 2025. This project is part of the company’s Water Supply Master Plan that aims to ensure water security and supply reliability in the East Zone. Once completed, the project will also lessen water supply dependence on Angat Dam.

The WTP is also part of the East Bay Phase 2 Water Supply System (WSS) Project, which also includes the construction of a reservoir, pumping station, and pipelaying of 60 kilometers of 1200- and 1400-millimeter diameter pipes. The WTP will treat the water from Laguna Lake using a reverse osmosis process, making it suitable for public consumption.
