In order to accelerate Malaysia’s transition to a digital economy, the Swedish telecom giant Ericsson and Intel, one of the biggest chipmakers in the world, are planning to work together on the development of 5G use cases. The announcement was made on the fringes of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger and Ericsson CEO Börje Ekholm addressed the potential for cooperation to expand the 5G ecosystem in Malaysia by creating 5G use cases that would benefit numerous sectors. Ekholm envisioned that Malaysia would soon have one of the world’s quickest 5G rollouts, allowing everyone to profit from a digital economy even sooner than anticipated.
This came after Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB), Malaysia’s state-owned single 5G network provider, formed a collaboration with Ericsson, which is intended to provide users with a first-rate experience and hastened the implementation of the country’s 5G network. By the end of 2022, the 5G implementation of DNB had reached 47%. Gelsinger emphasized that the establishment of a 5G ecosystem and the launch of a countrywide 5G network in Malaysia will speed the region’s shift to a digital economy and usher in a new era of creativity.
