The Philippine Climate Change Commission (CCC), in collaboration with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH or German Development Cooperation, has announced the soft launch of the Transformative Actions for Climate and Ecological Protection and Development (TRANSCEND) Project in Manila. This foreign-assisted initiative, valued at EUR 36.8 million (USD 39.7 million), aims to bolster the Philippines’ capacity in implementing climate change and biodiversity policies transparently, integratively, and accountably across all societal levels.
The project seeks to foster coordination among government agencies, civil society organizations, and the private sector, emphasizing a whole-of-society and whole-of-world approach to address climate change challenges effectively. TRANSCEND aligns with the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) and Nationally Distributed Contributions Implementation Plan (NDCIP) to support key climate interventions, including biodiversity protection, leveraging private sector investments for a low-carbon economy, adaptation and mitigation strategies, and establishing decision support systems for transformative policies.
The hard launch of TRANSCEND is scheduled for August, marking a significant milestone in Philippine-German diplomatic relations and contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Climate Action (SDG 13), Life on Land (SDG 15), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).
