Brazil’s postal service Correios announced in late July 2023 that it had signed an agreement with shopping app Shopee to boost exports of Brazilian products to Southeast Asian markets. Owned by Southeast Asian tech giant Sea, Shopee signed a memorandum of understanding with Correios, along with the Brazilian Agency for the Promotion of Exports and Investments (ApexBrasil), a deal that aims to help small and medium companies from Brazil export to various ASEAN countries.
The agreement follows an announcement made by Shopee in 2022 that they had opened five new distribution centers in Brazil, with its platform becoming one of the country’s most downloaded e-commerce apps since its launch in Brazil in 2019. ASEAN has also been a key partner for the Brazilian economy, with a trade flow of USD 16.6 billion in the first half of 2022, up 21.3% compared to the same period in 2021. The agreement will offer training for companies, with Shopee providing support for strategic and adequate operation on their platform, and Correios providing assistance in shipping and distribution logistics.
