The Innovation Partnership Grants, a funding scheme backed by the Australian government, has recently announced to provide AUD 2 million (USD 1.3 million) to capitalize on tech-based innovation in Vietnam’s agriculture sector.
The scheme targets to distribute the funds to support initiatives that have already been tested and are able to resolve emerging challenges in Vietnam’s innovation system.
The program was originally administered and carried out by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) and delivered in strategic partnership with the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam. It has conducted three funding rounds for twelve projects to date, and all of them have delivered fruitful outcomes.
In previous rounds, the program marked successful technological applications in the fields of healthcare, agribusiness, disaster relief, and environmental management.
The new round, themed “High Tech Innovation to Address Challenges in Agriculture for Sustainable Development”, will prioritize ideas that utilize technology to resolve several phenomena, such as productivity in production and processing, the use of resources in agriculture, markets for agricultural products, climate change adaptation/mitigation and resilience, or benefits for disadvantaged groups.
Innovation Partnership Grants is a crucial element under the Aus4Innovation initiative, which is a 10-year program aiming at strengthening Vietnam’s innovation system. Starting in 2018, the program is expected to contribute AUD 33.5 million to support inclusive and sustainable socio-economic development in the country.
