The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam have given the Vietnamese city of Hue six electric trucks for rubbish collection, which are Vietnam’s first electric garbage collection trucks.
The Japanese government will assist with Vietnam in reducing carbon emissions using renewable energy and other mechanisms under the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP). This e-mobility project is meant to contribute to the development of policies and support mechanisms for carbon emission reductions in the transportation sector.
Vietnam has adopted a green transformation and carbon and methane reduction action plan for the transportation industry. Importantly, the Southeast Asian nation plans to switch to 100% electric road vehicles by 2050, a critical step toward achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions from transportation. Thua Hien-Hue Province in central Vietnam, where Hue is located, will be critical in advancing these ambitious goals and propelling the country’s sustainable transportation program.
Hue has launched an innovative Public Bike-Sharing (PBS) scheme in constructing a bicycle transportation plan for 2021-2026 that mobilizes private investment for bike-sharing public services in collaboration with the International Cooperation Agency of Germany (GIZ) and Vietsoftpro.
