From 16 to 23 June, 2025, a Vietnamese energy delegation visited the UK to explore cooperation opportunities in offshore wind energy production. Organized by the British Embassy in Hanoi and Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, the mission included 12 officials from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam Electricity (EVN), and Petrovietnam. The delegation attended key events like the “Global Offshore Wind 2025” conference, workshops on offshore wind auction design, and a roundtable on project financing for Vietnam’s offshore wind projects.
The visit focused on learning from the UK’s successful offshore wind industry, with Petrovietnam executives visiting Hull and Grimsby in the Humber region to observe operations, including the Siemens Gamesa blade manufacturing factory and the Grimsby Offshore Training Centre. These exchanges highlighted the importance of infrastructure development, private investment, and long-term planning in offshore wind energy.
The UK Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, Alexandra Smith, commended Vietnam’s offshore wind target of 17,000MW by 2035 and its efforts to develop a legal framework and supply chain for the sector. She emphasized the UK’s commitment to supporting Vietnam’s energy transition, including through the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) and the Centre of Excellence for Offshore Wind.
