US Company to Build the Philippines’ First E-bike Plant

The American Zero Motorcycles has partnered with the manufacturing arm of Filipino conglomerate Ayala Corporation to build the Southeast Asian country’s first high-powered electric bike (e-bike) manufacturing plant in Laguna, predicted tto generate annual sales of over USD 60 million.

Ayala’s Integrated Micro-Electronics Inc. (IMI) and Zero entered a partnership to build a global manufacturing hub in the Philippines to meet rising demand for electric motorcycles. This collaboration is expected to help meet the rising demand for high-powered motorcycles, with a targeted projection of about 16,000 bikes per year by 2025.

Zero Motorcycles headquartered in Santa Cruz, California manufactures high-performance electric motorcycles. The Laguna plant will assemble Zero’s motorcycle and batteries, employing around 200 workers. Meanwhile, IMI will bring its knowhow related to electronics manufacturing and e-bike assembly. IMI has installed a network of chargers that are being currently integrated and installed by Greenstrum in more than 50 sites across the Philippines.

The signing of the memorandum of agreement between the two companies was witnessed by Philippines’ President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in May 2022 in Washington, D.C.
