TotalEnergies and Google Sign 21-Year PPA to Power Malaysia Data Centers

Jan 2026

TotalEnergies has entered into a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Google to supply the tech giant with 1 terawatt-hour (TWh) of certified renewable electricity over the next 21 years. The power will be sourced from the upcoming Citra Energies solar plant in Kedah, Malaysia, supporting Google’s growing data center footprint in the region.

The Citra Energies solar facility, representing an investment of approximately MYR 140 million (USD 33 million), is scheduled to begin construction in early 2026. The 29.99 MW project was awarded an Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning (EPCC) contract to Solarvest Holdings Berhad in late 2025. Once operational, the plant will provide approximately 20 MW of clean capacity, contributing to Google’s ambitious goal of operating 24/7 carbon-free energy by 2030. The agreement officially takes effect upon the project’s financial close, which is anticipated in the first quarter of 2026.

The project is a joint venture between TotalEnergies (49%) and local partner MK Land Holdings Berhad (51%), under the framework of Malaysia’s Corporate Green Power Programme (CGPP). This partnership highlights the accelerating demand for renewable energy driven by the expansion of AI and cloud infrastructure in Southeast Asia. For Google, the deal ensures additionality, the creation of new green capacity rather than the reallocation of existing supply. For TotalEnergies, the contract aligns with its global strategy to achieve 12% profitability in its power business while scaling its renewable portfolio toward a target of 100 TWh of net electricity production by 2030.
