Technology to Transform Medical Examination and Treatment in Vietnam

Jan 2023

Vietnam’s Ministry of Heath has implemented a project to enhance the professional capacity of grassroots healthcare organizations and disseminate the expertise of doctors from central-level hospitals to citizens and health workers nationwide. Patients and healthcare professionals, particularly those in highlands and isolated regions, now have easier access to cutting-edge techniques thanks to the expansion of remote medical assessment and treatment.

According to the Director of the Medical Examination and Treatment Department, the technological application in examination and treatment through telemedicine program is a critical change, and it is expected to develop the healthcare sector in a modern direction and approach international medical standards.

In several hospitals, patients can schedule appointments for medical consultations and treatments via phone calls or online applications without queuing or in-place registering. With new technology applied, they can now access modern services, reducing time and medical risks.

Healthcare is one of the eight national digital transformation goals prescribed in the Government’s Decision No. 749/QD-TTg. Accordingly, all public healthcare facilities are required to set up telemedicine departments, develop a system for disease prevention and healthcare based on digital technologies, and fully implement digital technology at medical facilities to support administrative reform and lessen hospital overcrowding.

The public hospitals will implement electronic medical records and payment systems as an approach to create smart hospitals and health management platforms. These platforms will integrate information and data into a national database.
