Singapore has announced the launch of a USD 31 million fund to support the commercialisation of promising green technologies developed through research. Known as the Urban Solutions and Sustainability Translation Fund, the initiative aims to bridge the gap between laboratory innovation and real-world deployment by addressing challenges such as high upfront costs, technical risks, and regulatory barriers that often hinder adoption. The fund will focus on key areas including agri-food, waste, water, and the urban environment, helping to unlock business opportunities from existing research.
To qualify for funding, eligible projects must address national priorities, originate from publicly funded research, demonstrate working prototypes, and show clear potential for commercialisation. Over the next five years, around 20 projects are expected to benefit from the fund, including solutions such as advanced water treatment technologies and innovations for urban infrastructure. The initiative is part of Singapore’s broader Research, Innovation and Enterprise (RIE) 2030 strategy, which aims to strengthen sustainability and resilience through technology-driven solutions.
In addition, complementary initiatives such as the establishment of a USD 23.5 million Built Environment AI Centre of Excellence will support the development of advanced solutions to improve efficiency and sustainability, while nurturing professionals with both technical AI expertise and a practical understanding of challenges facing buildings and infrastructure.
