Purina, a subsidiary of Nestlé, has opened a new wet cat food manufacturing facility in Rayong, Thailand. The factory, covering over 93,800 square meters, represents an investment of approximately USD 160 million. Located less than 200 kilometers from Bangkok, the site will produce single-serve wet cat food under brands including Purina One, Pro Plan, Felix, and Fancy Feast.
The plant will serve markets across Asia, Oceania, and Africa and is expected to support Nestlé’s global pet food revenue growth. The facility also enhances Thailand’s role as a manufacturing base for pet food, offering access to local raw materials and efficient logistics within Southeast Asia. Nestlé Indochina’s Chairman and CEO, Victor Seah, stated that regional accessibility and market potential influenced the decision to invest in Thailand.
This development follows a USD 90 million expansion of Purina’s Blayney facility in Australia in April, which was also aimed at meeting increased demand for wet cat food.
Thailand’s pet food industry continues to expand. In 2021, the country’s dog and cat food market grew by 9.4% to USD 1.1 billion. Pet food exports reached 720,694 tons, valued at USD 2 billion. This was a significant increase from 2020, when exports totaled 609,001 tons worth USD 1.6 billion. From January to April 2022 alone, Thailand exported 276,769 tons of pet food valued at USD 842 million, marking a year-on-year increase between 20% and 30%. Thailand is currently the third-largest pet food exporter globally.
