Mitsubishi Power, a power solutions brand under Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, has completed the 1.4GW Hin Kong natural gas-fired turbine combined cycle (GTCC) power plant in Thailand. The facility, equipped with two advanced M701JAC gas turbines, is a joint venture between the RATCH Group Public Company and the Gulf Energy Development Public Company.
Located 100 km west of Bangkok, the plant’s second M701JAC gas turbine has now entered commercial operation, following the first unit, which began operations in March 2024. The completion of this high-efficiency power plant supports Thailand’s growing energy demands while ensuring future readiness as energy needs evolve.
To maintain efficient and reliable electricity supply, Mitsubishi Power will provide ongoing support under a 25-year long-term service agreement (LTSA). The plant supplies electricity to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand as part of a long-term agreement established in 2020.
This project marks the commercial operation of Mitsubishi Power’s tenth M701JAC gas turbine in Thailand, reinforcing the company’s commitment to supporting the country’s energy sector. Building on the success of the Hin Kong Power project, Mitsubishi Power looks forward to expanding its partnership and taking on new opportunities.
The completion of this project aligns with the company’s earlier achievement of the 5,300MW GTCC power plant project in Rayong and Chonburi, which also utilizes M701JAC gas turbines. Across both projects, the ten operational M701JAC units have accumulated 120,000 hours of performance, demonstrating their reliability. Mitsubishi Power has now supplied 22 gas turbines to RATCH and GULF projects, contributing over 14,000MW to Thailand’s energy capacity.
