Indonesia Teams Up with Denmark’s Vestas to Launch Wind Energy Project

May 2025

Indonesia’s state-owned power company, PT PLN Nusantara Power, has entered into a partnership with Denmark-based Vestas Development to advance wind energy projects across the country. The two parties signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in Jakarta, effective February 2025, and valid for two years with the option for extension.

The collaboration will initially focus on identifying and developing wind energy opportunities in Indonesia, supporting the country’s broader transition to clean energy. PLN Nusantara Power President Director Rully Firmansyah emphasized that the partnership is a key step in unlocking Indonesia’s wind energy potential. Meanwhile, Vestas views Indonesia as a strategic market in its ongoing expansion across the Asia-Pacific region.

In addition to the wind energy project, Indonesia and Denmark signed several Memorandums of Understanding, including a joint study agreement between PLN Indonesia Power and Vestas to explore opportunities for meeting Indonesia’s green electricity needs. Another agreement was signed between PLN Indonesia Power and Saltfoss Energy to collaborate on the development of nuclear energy in the country.

The collaboration builds on a broader strategic partnership between Indonesia and Denmark in supporting the energy transition, with Denmark having previously conducted renewable energy studies in the country.
