Indonesia and France Sign 27 Memorandums of Understanding Valued at USD 11 Billion

Jun 2025

Indonesia and France signed 27 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) totaling USD 11 billion, underscoring their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors. The agreements were concluded during the French President’s official visit to Jakarta last May.

Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs announced the signing of 27 MoUs, noting that 16 were signed in the morning in the presence of the French and Indonesian Presidents. The remaining 11 were finalized later during the Indonesia-France Business Forum, which was attended by 368 delegates from both countries.

The coordinating minister highlighted that the agreements reflect the shared commitment of both countries to deepen their 75-year partnership. The MoUs encompass a wide range of cooperation, including government-to-government (G2G), business-to-business (B2B), and people-to-people initiatives.

The coordinating minister also emphasized the importance of translating the agreements into concrete outcomes and encouraged participants at the 2025 Indonesia-France Business Forum to actively promote trade and investment between the two countries. He reaffirmed the commitment to fostering new opportunities for economic cooperation and shared growth.

The MoUs were part of a broader initiative aimed at strengthening cooperation in key areas, including defense, trade, and education. As part of the bilateral discussions, the French President extended an invitation to the Indonesian President to attend Bastille Day in Paris, underscoring the growing partnership between the two nations.

The French President’s visit to Jakarta and Magelang from May 27 to 29 is part of his broader Indo-Pacific tour, which will also include visits to Vietnam and Singapore. During the visit, the Indonesian President welcomed him at Merdeka Palace, where they agreed to collaborate in 21 areas, including defense and a free meals program for schoolchildren. This visit marks a significant milestone in the diplomatic and economic relationship between Indonesia and France, with both countries reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation in the years to come.
