Hyundai Motor Group, Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore), and A*STAR have jointly launched a new Corporate Lab at the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS). This marks the first Corporate Lab established within Singapore’s automotive manufacturing sector, reflecting Hyundai’s broader push to position HMGICS as a global testbed for next-generation factory technologies.
The lab will focus on advanced manufacturing research, including AI-driven automation, robotics, smart manufacturing systems, and 3D printing. By leveraging HMGICS’s Software-Defined Factory and smart-factory testbeds, the collaboration aims to accelerate the translation of academic research into practical industrial applications, enabling fast prototyping, testing, and deployment of new solutions on the factory floor.
Through this partnership, Hyundai, NTU, and A*STAR hope to strengthen Singapore’s innovation ecosystem by combining global industrial expertise with local research capabilities. A key part of the initiative is talent development—training engineers and researchers in high-value manufacturing technologies that support the future of automotive production.
Beyond enhancing Hyundai’s manufacturing capabilities, the Corporate Lab is expected to create spillover benefits for Singapore. These include opportunities for local SMEs to adopt cutting-edge production technologies, deeper integration between industry and academia, and new pathways for smart-manufacturing innovation aligned with Singapore’s broader economic transformation goals.
