Hitachi Energy, a global leader in electrification, is investing 455 million THB (14 million USD) to expand its transformer manufacturing facility in Samutprakarn, Thailand. The investment is part of the company’s 9 billion USD global program to increase manufacturing, research and development, engineering, and partnerships to meet rising demand for transformers and grid solutions worldwide.
The expanded Samutprakarn facility, scheduled for completion by the end of 2027, will increase production capacity by 60 percent and enable faster delivery of critical grid equipment. The expansion includes modernization of the power transformer test lab, advanced production technology, and enhanced health and safety systems to ensure efficient and sustainable operations. The facility will feature optimized production line layouts, dedicated zones for final assembly and testing, and upgraded fire detection and suppression systems to improve workflow and working conditions.
Operational since 1990, the Samutprakarn factory specializes in liquid-filled power transformers using Hitachi Energy’s TrafoStar technology platform. The site supports global operations across 17 transformer factories and contributes to electricity transmission, grid stability, and integration of renewable energy.
Carlos Pettinau, Hub APMEA Manager, Business Unit Transformers, stated that the investment underscores Hitachi Energy’s commitment to strengthening Thailand as a key regional center for the energy transition.
The factory expansion is expected to create jobs, support local communities, and provide essential infrastructure for a sustainable energy system. Hitachi Energy is a market leader, with over two million distribution transformers and significant high-voltage technology installed globally.
