GDS International, a leading data center developer in Asia, has announced a significant investment of up to USD 1 billion to establish a hyperscale data center park in Chonburi, Thailand, over the next five years. This initiative was revealed during a meeting with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who emphasized that the investment reflects growing investor confidence in Thailand’s digital ecosystem and its potential as a regional hub for cloud infrastructure and AI technology. The Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) has approved GDS International’s project as part of its strategy to position the country as a tech hub, highlighting Thailand’s robust digital infrastructure and supportive government policies.
The new data center park will not only cater to the rising demand for AI and cloud services but also create job opportunities and foster skill development in the local workforce. GDS International has partnered with AMATA Corporation for land acquisition at AMATA City Chonburi Industrial Estate, which will provide access to renewable energy sources. This project aligns with Thailand’s carbon neutrality goals and aims to incorporate advanced technologies for enhanced energy efficiency. With this investment, GDS International is poised to strengthen its presence in Southeast Asia and contribute significantly to the region’s digital economy.
