Establishment of the National Space Agency of Singapore (NSAS)

Feb 2026

The Government of Singapore will establish the National Space Agency of Singapore (NSAS) on April 1, 2026. NSAS will be set up under the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) to lead Singapore’s national space ambitions and position the country as a leader in space technologies and a credible contributor to the global space ecosystem. The establishment of NSAS reflects Singapore’s intention to strengthen its role in the rapidly expanding global space economy.

Space technologies and capabilities are critical to Singapore’s open and highly connected economy, underpinning essential functions such as digital connectivity, navigation, maritime monitoring, and climate resilience. Singapore’s strengths in advanced manufacturing, aerospace, microelectronics, precision engineering, and artificial intelligence provide a foundation to capture new opportunities in the space sector. Today, Singapore is home to about 70 space-related companies employing around 2,000 professionals across the value chain, from designing and manufacturing space components to delivering satellite-based services. Singapore has also formed partnerships with international space agencies and organizations, including the European Space Agency, India’s IN-SPACe, the UAE Space Agency, and Thailand’s Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency.

NSAS will assume and build upon the functions of the Office of Space Technology & Industry (OSTIn) to strengthen Singapore’s R&D ecosystem, develop the domestic space industry, and advance international partnerships. It will also take on new responsibilities to develop and operate national space capabilities and to introduce legislation and regulations that are pro-innovation and pro-business while ensuring space safety and sustainability. The move comes as the global space economy is projected to reach US$1.8 trillion by 2035.
