EGAT Advances Thailand’s Net Zero Transition Through Green Energy Innovation

Nov 2025

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) is advancing Thailand’s transition toward Net Zero emissions through innovative green energy initiatives designed to enhance national competitiveness and sustainability. Warit Rattanachuen, Assistant Governor of Research, Innovation, and Business Development at EGAT, discussed the organization’s efforts during the special session “EGAT Way to Energy Future” at the event “A Call for Adaptation: Sustainability in Trade and Industry,” held on October 3, 2025, as part of the Sustainability Expo 2025.

Warit emphasized that sustainable development and carbon reduction have become essential elements in global trade and competitiveness. He noted that many RE100 companies are increasingly interested in investing in Thailand due to its growing focus on renewable energy. He added that energy production and transportation remain major sources of carbon emissions, but electricity generation now has viable carbon-free alternatives.

EGAT’s strategy, referred to as “soft transformation,” focuses on three areas. The first is source transformation, which promotes electricity generation from renewable and sustainable sources such as solar, hydrogen, and small modular nuclear reactors. The second is sink co-creation, which includes investment in carbon capture, storage, and utilization technologies. The third is support, which expands Thailand’s electric vehicle ecosystem and provides infrastructure for nationwide charging stations.

In addition, EGAT offers decarbonization services such as greenhouse gas reporting, energy management using artificial intelligence, solar panel installations, carbon credits, and renewable energy certificates to support Thailand’s sustainable energy transition.
