DNB and Ericsson Empower 40,000 Malaysian Public Servants with 5G-AI Training for Digital Future

Oct 2025

Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) and Ericsson have launched the “DNB-Ericsson Educate 21st Century Technologies programme,” a free, large-scale upskilling initiative targeting 40,000 Malaysian municipal and government employees to build expertise in 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and automation. Announced as a pivotal step in Malaysia’s digital transformation, the programme is delivered through an interactive, mobile-friendly online platform featuring short, self-paced modules based on Ericsson’s global knowledge in next-generation technologies. A standout element is the ‘connected city’ simulation, which immerses participants in real-world urban connectivity challenges, equipping them to design and implement inclusive digital strategies for public services.

The initiative directly supports Malaysia’s ambition to become a leading AI-driven nation by 2030, as outlined in the 13th Malaysia Plan, while advancing broader smart city and digital economy goals. In its first phase, it focuses on city and municipal councils to enable frontline public servants to adopt digital-first approaches aligned with national priorities. By fostering a more connected, efficient, and future-ready public sector, the programme enhances service delivery and economic growth, building on DNB and Ericsson’s ongoing strategic partnership to deploy world-class 5G infrastructure across Malaysia.

David Hägerbro, Head of Ericsson Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, emphasized Malaysia’s potential to lead as an AI nation, supported by its advanced 5G network, growing data center investments, and cloud infrastructure. Similarly, Azman Ismail, CEO of DNB, highlighted that such partnerships demonstrate a commitment to building a future-ready Malaysia, combining global technological expertise with local institutions to create AI-powered cities and inclusive digital ecosystems, actively shaping the nation’s future.

This programme complements existing skilling efforts for university students and strengthens Malaysia’s digitally empowered economy and society. By combining global expertise with local needs, it lays the foundation for AI-powered cities, inclusive digital ecosystems, and a skilled public sector, ultimately accelerating Malaysia’s journey toward sustainable growth and innovation.
