Singapore to Establish National Space Agency to Drive Growth in Space Sector

Mar 2026

The Singapore Government has announced the establishment of the National Space Agency of Singapore (NSAS), which will begin operations in April 2026 under the Ministry of Trade and Industry, taking over the current functions of the Office of Space Technology & Industry (OSTIn). The agency is expected to lead Singapore’s space ambitions, strengthen its position in space technologies, and contribute to the global space ecosystem. This move reflects Singapore’s recognition of the growing importance of space capabilities in supporting key functions such as digital connectivity, navigation, maritime monitoring, and climate resilience.

NSAS will build upon the existing efforts of OSTIn, with responsibilities including strengthening research and development, growing the domestic space industry, and advancing international partnerships. In addition, the agency will develop national space capabilities and establish regulatory frameworks that support innovation while ensuring safety and sustainability. With the global space economy expected to expand significantly in the coming years, Singapore aims to leverage its strengths in advanced manufacturing, engineering, and technology to capture new opportunities in this sector.
