Mowi, a Norway based salmon producer, opened its first processing plant in Thailand on January 2026. The facility was established in partnership with CP Axtra, Thailand’s largest salmon importer and retailer and part of the CP Group. Under the agreement, Mowi will supply salmon products to customers across CP’s Makro and Lotus chains and to the foodservice sector.
The collaboration includes product development focused on fillets, portion sized cuts for business clients, and ready to eat sashimi packed in modified atmosphere packaging. The product range, marketed under CP Axtra’s Aro Gold brand, includes five stock keeping units. These cover salmon trims with pin bones removed for foodservice operators, as well as sashimi and skin on and skin off fillets for retail customers.
According to data from the Norwegian Seafood Council, Norway exported 25000 metric tons of salmon and 8400 metric tons of trout to Thailand in 2025. The total export value reached USD 260 million. This represented a 37 % increase in volume and a19 % increase in value compared with 2024.
Thailand is Norway’s second largest market in Asia after China. In 2025, Thailand imported more salmon and trout from Norway than Japan and South Korea. Although prices were lower in 2025, export value continued to grow, indicating sustained demand in the Thai market.
