PETRONAS, via Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), has finalized a strategic agreement to develop the PETRONAS Geoscience Technology Centre (PGTC). The partnership with Gilang Cendana Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Putrajaya Holdings, marks the national energy company’s first major physical landmark in Malaysia’s administrative capital. The facility is envisioned as a premier national hub dedicated to advancing subsurface innovation and safeguarding Malaysia’s energy heritage.
The PGTC is designed to serve as a high-tech repository and research engine, integrating advanced data management with immersive visualization and collaborative digital platforms. A core function of the center will be its role as the guardian of Malaysia’s subsurface heritage, housing and managing over 100 years of exploration data. By centralizing this invaluable resource, PETRONAS aims to foster a data-driven culture that supports more efficient and sustainable upstream petroleum activities across the country.
The center is more than a data warehouse; it is a collaborative space for industry and government partners, including Department of Mineral and Geoscience Malaysia. This initiative aligns with the broader national vision of positioning Malaysia as a regional leader in energy technology. By combining historical exploration records with cutting-edge analytics, PGTC will support the country’s long-term energy resilience and digital transformation in the subsurface sector.
