Singapore-headquartered healthcare group, HMI Medical, has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Sarawak-based developer Ibraco Berhad to acquire land for the construction of its third hospital in East Malaysia. The new facility, Regency Hospital Kuching, will be located within the NorthBank township in Kuching and marks a significant expansion of HMI Medical’s regional footprint.
HMI Medical currently operates leading hospitals in Melaka and Johor, supported by over 27 years of experience in specialized healthcare delivery. Under the agreement, HMI Medical will develop a 300-bed tertiary smart hospital equipped with advanced medical technologies and designed to meet international clinical standards. Scheduled to launch in 2029, the hospital aims to address the rising demand for comprehensive specialist and subspecialty services in Sarawak and the wider Southeast Asian region. The project aligns with the company’s mission to enhance access to quality private healthcare while supporting Malaysia’s growing medical tourism sector.
The establishment of Regency Hospital Kuching is expected to generate over a thousand new jobs once fully operational and create opportunities for clinical talent development through cross-training programs. Ibraco Berhad highlighted that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to sustainable township development and long-term community value. The new hospital is also anticipated to contribute to Sarawak’s socio-economic growth by strengthening healthcare infrastructure and boosting investor confidence within the NorthBank development.
