Johor Agropolis Secures MYR 500 Million to Transform Malaysia into Global Agribusiness Hub

Oct 2025

The Johor Agropolis project, a transformative initiative to establish Johor as a global agribusiness hub, has attracted MYR 500 million (USD 118.4 million) in investments, spearheaded by the Johor State Government and the Malaysian Investment, Trade and Industry Promotion Corporation (Matrade). Located within the Johor Special Economic Zone, the project envisions a sustainable, technology-driven ecosystem that integrates advanced farming technologies, research, and commercial operations to revolutionize agriculture and food production. By fostering innovation and collaboration, it aims to address key challenges in food security and economic diversification, positioning Johor at the forefront of modern agribusiness in Southeast Asia.

Central to the project are partnerships with a mix of local and international stakeholders, including private sector entities, to drive adoption of cutting-edge solutions like precision agriculture, smart farming, and data analytics. Sustainability is a core pillar, with an emphasis on eco-friendly practices such as renewable energy integration and minimized environmental impact, ensuring long-term viability for agricultural operations. The initiative not only seeks to enhance productivity but also to create high-value jobs and attract global expertise, leveraging Johor’s strategic location and infrastructure to boost regional trade and investment.

The anticipated impacts are multifaceted, including bolstered export capabilities, strengthened national food security, and substantial economic uplift through infrastructure enhancements and employment generation. Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi described the project as a “game-changer,” highlighting its potential to propel sustainable growth and cement Johor’s stature in the global agribusiness landscape. By reducing operational costs and improving efficiency via technological advancements, Agropolis is poised to deliver enduring benefits to Malaysia’s agri-commodity sector.
