Nokia and Viettel Partner to Upgrade Vietnam’s Broadband Network for Better Service and Energy Efficiency

Oct 2025

Nokia and Viettel have announced a strategic collaboration to modernize Vietnam’s fixed broadband infrastructure using Nokia’s Broadband Network Gateway – Control User Plane Separation (BNG-CUPS) solution. The upgrade will first be rolled out in the Hanoi metro area, improving broadband availability and service quality for Viettel’s subscribers while enhancing the network’s operational and energy efficiency.

Vietnam’s digital economy is expanding rapidly, with the government aiming for the sector to contribute 30% of GDP by 2030. This growth is driving demand for fast, stable, and energy-efficient broadband infrastructure. To meet these demands, Viettel will replace its existing legacy system with Nokia’s BNG-CUPS solution, enabling more agile operations and higher network reliability.

The deployment leverages Nokia’s 7750 Service Router powered by the FP5 chipset, which can reduce energy consumption by up to 75%. In addition, Nokia’s Network Services Platform will simplify network management and allow Viettel to adapt quickly to changing traffic and user demands. The CUPS architecture will separate the control and user planes, supporting flexible scaling and edge deployments to future-proof Viettel’s network.

“This initiative reiterates our commitment to continuously elevate network performance and deliver a best-in-class experience to our subscribers,” said Nguyen Tran Quynh, Deputy Director of Viettel’s Technical Global Center.

Kent Wong, Vice President and Head of IP Networks for Asia Pacific at Nokia, noted this marks the first deployment of BNG-CUPS in Vietnam, marking a milestone for both companies. The upgrade will position Viettel to provide more reliable broadband services while contributing to Vietnam’s national digital transformation and sustainability goals.
