Vietnam Emerges as Marvell’s Third-Largest Global R&D Hub

Oct 2025

Vietnam has become a strategic pillar in the global semiconductor industry as U.S. based Marvell Technology inaugurated three new offices, officially making the country its third-largest R&D center worldwide. The expansion includes two offices in Ho Chi Minh City and one in Danang, bringing Marvell’s local engineering team to more than 500. The largest site, located in Etown 6, features a state-of-the-art laboratory equipped with advanced validation tools to support high-level semiconductor chip testing and innovation.

Sandeep Bharathi, President of the Data Centre Group at Marvell, highlighted that the new lab reflects the company’s long-term commitment to R&D and its confidence in Vietnam’s strategic role as a global semiconductor innovation hub. He emphasized that Marvell aims to build a strong base of Vietnamese engineers capable of driving cutting-edge breakthroughs in semiconductor technology and powering future AI data infrastructure.

HCMC Chairman Nguyen Van Duoc underscored that Marvell’s expansion not only strengthens technological cooperation but also reinforces Vietnam’s growing position in the global semiconductor value chain. He affirmed the city’s commitment to creating favorable policy, infrastructure, and human resource conditions to support Marvell’s R&D, technology transfer, and workforce development efforts.

Since its establishment in 2013 with just five engineers, Marvell Vietnam has grown into a major R&D center contributing to advanced projects such as the Marvell® Alaska® A 800G PAM4 DSP AEC, Alaska P PCIe Gen6 Retimer, and Nova 1.6 Tbps PAM4 DSP. Le Quang Dam, General Manager of Marvell Vietnam, noted that Vietnamese engineers are now integral to the company’s most complex semiconductor initiatives, reflecting their expertise and growth potential.

Marvell also sees Vietnam as key to advancing workforce diversity, including boosting female representation in engineering. To achieve this, the company plans to deepen partnerships with Vietnamese universities and government agencies through scholarships, internships, curriculum co-development, and technical training programs. This expansion signals not only Marvell’s growing investment in Vietnam but also the country’s ascent as a critical hub in the global semiconductor value chain.
