Vietnam’s military-owned telecom powerhouse, Viettel, has entered into a strategic partnership with South Korea’s KT Corporation to advance artificial intelligence (AI) development in Vietnam. The agreement, signed in Hanoi on May 26, commits approximately USD 95 million toward creating AI infrastructure, solutions, and talent development tailored to Vietnam’s needs.
Under the deal, Viettel and KT will co-develop a dedicated AI data center, GPU server clusters, and a Global Development Centre in Hanoi to train high-quality AI professionals. They will also consolidate efforts in AI consulting, business development, and launch AI solutions such as virtual assistants, anti-voice-phishing systems, and national AI models customized for Vietnamese language and market conditions.
This collaboration supports Viettel’s transformation from a telecom provider to a tech-driven enterprise and aligns with Vietnam’s broader goal of positioning itself as a regional digital hub. According to KT and Fitch Solutions, the partnership enhances the country’s digital infrastructure capabilities and reflects government support for deepening technological competitiveness in Southeast Asia.
By combining KT’s proven AI expertise with Viettel’s extensive domestic network and market insight, the partnership aims to revolutionize digital services for consumers, businesses, and government, setting a foundation for Vietnam’s next-phase technology growth.
