Vietnam’s exports in 2019 rose 8.4% to USD 264.189 billion, while imports rose 6.8% to USD 253.071 billion. Vietnam recorded a trade surplus of USD 11.12 billion last year, widening from a surplus of USD 6.8 billion in 2018, with smartphones, garments and electronic home appliances among the largest export earners.
According to the information revealed by the General Department of Vietnam Customs, contractual import and export commitments during 2019 reached USD 517.26 billion, growing around 7.6% compared to 2018; where the value of exports was USD 264.19 billion and imports the USD 253.07 billion, representing an increase of 8.4% and 6.8% respectively.
Trade and commercial relations between Vietnam and China continue to be strong. Trade between Vietnam and China grew strongly in 2019, for both exports and imports, reaching nearly USD 117 billion.
