Thailand’s Big C Supercenter recently announced plans to overhaul the image of its stores while strengthening its digital ecosystem to increase sales opportunities and enhance its offerings to meet customers’ changing lifestyles. The company’s president confirmed that the renovation of the stores would commence in 2023, with the plan expected to be completed within 18 months.
Big C wanted to open 2-3 new branches in 2023, both under the hypermarket and Big C Food Place formats. This will increase the number of Big C hypermarkets to 155-156 stores in 2023. Moreover, the retailer targets to launch 200-300 new Mini Big C Market stores, 15-20 new Food Place supermarkets in Bangkok and surrounding areas, and 2-3 Pure drug stores.
Currently, Big C operates over 1,500 retail stores, including 1,456 Mini Big C stores, 153 hypermarkets, 11 Food Place stores, 38 Big C Market stores, 16 Depo stores, 154 Pure drug stores, and 3 Mega Market stores.
The company recently set up a digital business unit aimed at developing its digital platform. It launched the “Big C PLUS” application in 2022 to facilitate online shopping services, targeting 5 million downloads in 2023. The app will link to all Big C stores in Thailand. Big C plans to roll it out to its overseas network in 2023, including 60 Mini Big C stores in Laos and 21 retail stores in Cambodia.
