Hospitals and medtech businesses are expected to benefit from the advancement of the legal framework on telehealth in Vietnam. Importantly, in March 2021 the Deputy Minister of Health revealed that additional regulations on telehealth will be included in the upcoming Law on Medical Examination and Treatment, including the maximum amount of human resources in remote consultations.
In addition, the Ministry is working on financial mechanisms for telehealth activities, including technical and economic norms for remote medical examinations and treatments, as well as IT norms, enabling healthcare providers to link with insurance companies.
The digital health market is expected to experience strong growth in Vietnam. Importantly, in 2020, the Ministry of Health approved a telehealth development scheme for 2020-2025 with the twin goals of increasing the support for professionals in all health facilities (especially those in rural districts) and enhancing healthcare access. A further important milestone in the sector’s digital transformation path was marked in September 2020 when 1,000 healthcare facilities were announced to have been equipped with telehealth centers.
