Japanese furniture and home furnishing brand Nitori Retail opened its first outlet in Singapore in March 2022, spanning the entire fourth floor (31,630 sq ft) of Courts Nojima The Heeren, in Orchard Road, which is the main shopping belt in the country. Established in 1967, Nitori Retail is Japan’s largest furniture and home furnishing retailer, with 692 stores in Japan, and 90 more in China, Taiwan, the United States and Malaysia.
The store in Singapore will carry large furnishings and interior accessories from four main categories, namely, furniture, decor & home fashion, series collection and featured collection. Nitori manufactures over 90% of its products in-house, with 20 active years of working with manufacturers in China and Southeast Asia. To keep things affordable, almost 60% of the household items are made in China, while its N-cool fabrics, dining furniture and kitchenware are made in Vietnam. Many of its wood items come from Thailand, while sofas are made in Malaysia.
This will be Nitori’s second store in Southeast Asia: The first opened in Malaysia in January 2022 at Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport in Kuala Lumpur’s Bukit Bintang. Nitori plans to open another nine stores in Southeast Asia over the next five years.
