British university Imperial College London recently opened ‘Imperial Global: Singapore’, its first overseas research and innovation hub. The center will foster collaboration between Imperial scientists and partners from academia, industry, government, and the third sector in Singapore.
The first initiative at the hub, IN-CYPHER, a SGD 20 million (USD 15 million) venture in collaboration with Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University focuses on enhancing medical device and health data security, leveraging Imperial’s expertise to position Singapore as a leader in health cybersecurity and AI in healthcare.
Located at the National Research Foundation Singapore (NRF) Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE), the center will facilitate the rapid translation of scientific breakthroughs into societal benefits and commercialization in Southeast Asia.
Imperial faculty and PhD students will work alongside Singaporean partners on innovative research projects addressing global challenges such as pandemic preparedness, climate change, transitioning to net zero, and artificial intelligence.
The establishment of the Singapore hub builds on the longstanding collaboration between Imperial College London and Singapore, which includes the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and the NTU-Imperial Health, Sustainability, and Technology Hub. Imperial’s partnership with Singapore underscores its commitment to global collaboration and innovation.
