The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) is asking for help from energy officials in order to beef up the waste-to-energy policy with the purpose of better disposing of increasing amounts of industrial waste. The current waste-to-energy scheme is overseen by the Energy Regulatory Commission.
Due to the increase in industrial waste resulting mainly from the government’s efforts to encourage Thai and foreign investors to embark on new industries, factory waste will rise 13-17% to 25-28 million tons in 2022, from 22 million tons last year, offering an opportunity to use refuse-derived fuel (RDF) for the energy sector. The new amount of industrial waste generated could help increase the existing capacity of 75MW from RDF-fired power plants nationwide by generating as much as 2,000MW of electricity.
