Ho Chi Minh City to Increase Cooperation with Rotterdam in Combating Climate Change

Aug 2022

On July 26, representatives of Ho Chi Minh City (HCM) and the Netherlands’ Rotterdam city agreed to increase cooperation in climate change response. During the meetings, HCM City’s Thu Duc city was proposed to be the location to carry out specific cooperation projects between the two sides in the field of water resource management, flood control, and climate change adaptation.

With Rotterdam’s management capacity, experience and technology in response to climate change, it was fitting that Rotterdam would help HCM City define directions for sea-oriented development and promulgate a climate change adaptation plan, including a water management plan and socio-economic planning. Rotterdam’s assistance is particularly significant since improper water and land planning will put pressure on other growth plans and have an impact on how people use surface and groundwater.

HCM City is prepared to create the most favorable condition for Dutch companies to conduct long-term trade and investment in the city, given that the global business community’s contributions to the HCM City are highly valued. Specifically, the HCM City leaders are urged to support business and investment activities of Dutch enterprises in the Netherlands’ strong fields, including seaport development and green energies.

During this visit, the mayor of Rotterdam is scheduled to attend a seminar on seaport development and logistics services as well as a roundtable on preparing for climate change with organizations from both Vietnam and the Netherlands.
